Thomas Sowell: Obama is a liar

[Hat tip to Mark Levin for linking to this Sowell article]

Sowell must be racist, huh?  According to the media, those of us who do not salute every utterance out of the Dear Leader’s mouth are motivated by racism.  I for one do not care that Obama’s skin is brown but I very much care that his politics are red.

The brilliant Dr. Sowell points out something that Charlie Gibson (advocate for the left) probably has not mentioned to the proles: though they are rushing this bill through Congress, it does not go into effect until after the next Presidential election!

One plain fact should outweigh all the words of Barack Obama and all the impressive trappings of the setting in which he says them: He tried to rush Congress into passing a massive government takeover of the nation’s medical care before the August recess– for a program that would not take effect until 2013!

Whatever President Obama is, he is not stupid. If the urgency to pass the medical care legislation was to deal with a problem immediately, then why postpone the date when the legislation goes into effect for years– more specifically, until the year after the next Presidential election?

If this is such an urgently needed program, why wait for years to put it into effect? And if the public is going to benefit from this, why not let them experience those benefits before the next Presidential election?

He answers his own question, but you already knew why Mr. Obama is doing what he is doing:

If we do not believe that the President is stupid, then what do we believe? The only reasonable alternative seems to be that he wanted to get this massive government takeover of medical care passed into law before the public understood what was in it.

Moreover, he wanted to get re-elected in 2012 before the public experienced what its actual consequences would be.

President Obama

President Obama

What a complete hardball-politics slimeball Barack Obama is.  This is a new leader?  This is HopenChange?  This clown is attempting to ram Soviet-style health care down our throats but does not want us to get a taste of how bad it will be until he is safely into his second term in the White House.  True to form as a statist, he consistently shows that creating and cementing more government dependence is his raison d’etre.  His reason for being.

One would imagine that the press would be performing their watchdog duties if a Republican tried such a thing.  Of course, when a leftist is in power the American Media morphs from watchdogs into lapdogs.

AP ‘Cronkiting’ the War in Afghanistan

The Associated Press decided to publish a picture of a wounded United States Marine in the final moments of his life over the requests and objections of his family and Defense Secretary Robert Gates:

Gates wrote to Thomas Curley, AP’s president and chief executive officer. “Out of respect for his family’s wishes, I ask you in the strongest of terms to reconsider your decision. I do not make this request lightly. In one of my first public statements as Secretary of Defense, I stated that the media should not be treated as the enemy, and made it a point to thank journalists for revealing problems that need to be fixed – as was the case with Walter Reed.”

“I cannot imagine the pain and suffering Lance Corporal Bernard’s death has caused his family. Why your organization would purposefully defy the family’s wishes knowing full well that it will lead to yet more anguish is beyond me. Your lack of compassion and common sense in choosing to put this image of their maimed and stricken child on the front page of multiple American newspapers is appalling. The issue here is not law, policy or constitutional right – but judgment and common decency.”

How did the Associated Press respond?

The AP reported in a story that it decided to make the image public anyway because it “conveys the grimness of war and the sacrifice of young men and women fighting it.”

That smells like bullshit to me.  I submit that they are pulling a Cronkite on us, deliberately trying to undermine the effort just as newsman-turned-editorialist Walter Cronkite did in 1968.  Given the constant reports and the knowledge that last month was the deadliest month of the conflict for American servicemen, their justification does not hold water.  They are using images to manipulate public opinion.

Lance Corporal Joshua Bernard is an American hero and takes a place in American history with all of the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives in the service of our country.  That the Associated Press felt the need to publish that photo shows that the people who made that decision do not respect that sacrifice.

I found this picture on The Frugal Cafe Blog Zone and wanted to share it:

I suppose that someone is going to need to update this to exchange Gibson for his talking-head replacement (Sawyer) at the end of the year.

Obama administration dead wrong on Honduras

The LA Times reports that the State Department is cutting off aid to Honduras because of what they dishonestly label as a coup.

Reporting from Washington – Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton terminated more than $30 million in aid to Honduras on Thursday in an effort to increase pressure on the country’s de facto government to restore democratic rule after a coup in June.

The State Department, which had earlier suspended the aid, said it could cut off as much as $200 million more unless ousted President Manuel Zelaya and his democratically elected government were reinstated.

Miguel Estrada

Miguel Estrada

The Obama administration must be shooting from the hip based upon pro-socialist ideology because the facts do not jibe with their actions and public statements.  As I blogged almost two months ago (Attempted Coup in Honduras headed off by rule of law), Honduras simply followed the constitution that then President Zelaya was violating.  In that post I quoted a short op-ed by Miguel Estrada (Honduras’ non-coup) and I also made a few key points that you will not hear from the Obama administration or their water carriers in the US mainstream media:

  1. The Honduran Constitution specifically forbids changing the rules limiting the President to one four-year term.
  2. Article 239 of their Constitution states that any President who even proposes the idea of reelection “shall cease forthwith” in his duties.
  3. When President Zelaya ignored the Honduran high court and attempted to proceed with his referendum, the Honduran Attorney General got an arrest warrant issued by the Supreme Court.
  4. The interim president, Micheletti, was lawfully made the President by the Honduran Congress.

That hardly matches up with the Obama Administration’s claims that this was a coup.  In fact, it was President Zelaya (funded and installed by Hugo Chavez) who was attempting a coup but was instead thwarted by the Honduran rule of law.

The L.A. times, continuing their role as a mouthpiece for Barack Obama that began when they withheld video of Obama’s close friendship with and respect for Israel-hating Rashid Khalidi, spewed the completely biased Obama talking points, clearly without consulting the Honduran Constitution.  Apparently leftists distain all constitutions, not just the US Constitution.

I will say it again for the slow witted: Zelaya was the person attempting a coup but the rule of law in Honduras prevailed.  The idea that my government is punishing these people who legally threw out a wannabe tyrant is disgusting, just as it was disgusting with Mr. Obama did not support the protestors in Iran after their election. I am seeing a trend.

One has to wonder if Mr. Obama’s position is based upon an ideological affinity with Hugo Chavez, the communist who is pursuing a strategy of buying political slots for his Marxist fellow travelers across Latin America.

UPDATE: I just found another article at National Review (Stop Bullying Honduras) that makes similar points about the truth of the situation in Honduras.

[In the interest of full disclosure, I have very close Honduran family members.  You could argue that this makes me biased, but you should also accept that it gives me more complete and direct information than you are getting from the American media.]

ABC/NBC refuse anti-ObamaCare ad

Covering for their Dear Leader…

ABC and NBC have refused to run an ad critical of the proposals to create a soviet-style health care system in America.  You may recall that ABC did a one hour special that was essentially an informercial for their Dear Leader.

Here is the video that they refuse to run:

How can anyone consider the mainstream media an unbiased news source?  As was so very evident during the election, they are partisans who will use their platform to pursue a statist/collectivist agenda.  They don’t even seem to care much about hiding it any more.

Has anyone considered starting a boycott of these networks?  Most of their shows are a pathetic waste of time anyway unless you are infected with that cop/lawyer/doctor show fetish that I cannot understand.

POTUS was and remains the problem

President Obama was out campaigning in VA and threw out a whopper:

“I expect to be held responsible,” Obama said. “But I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don’t mind cleaning up after them, but don’t do a lot of talking.”

President Urkel

President Urkel

Of course I know that this is typical.  Leftists will always pretend that history started yesterday.  One has to ask the question as to why Freddie and Fannie gave so much money to politicians like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and, yes, Barry Obama.  Could it be that it was a quid quo pro?

It is certainly hard to hold the president as accountable for the sub-prime crisis as insiders like Dodd and Frank, after all he has not had as much time on the job given his meteoric, media-assisted rise from dog catcher to president.  But all of those guys were at the wheel as Freddie and Fannie required more and more sub-prime loans, creating the market that ultimately collapsed.  The idea that the republicans created this banking crisis is absolute fiction.

But do you think that Obama’s sycophant Charlie Gibson will report that?

Obama knows history like I know opera

President Obama seems to know history like I know opera, which means not at all.  Everything that I know about opera I learned by watching Bugs Bunny.  Perhaps the same is true of the president’s knowledge of history.

This candidate, yet another liberal Harvard lawyer, was of course billed as the smartest man in the world but consider the record of the people who make such declarations.  You may recall that Al “Forrest” Gore was similarly presented and, frankly, he is an idiot.  From my observations over many election cycles I have noticed something about how the Left views political candidates: once you become a viable national democrat candidate you suddenly become both brilliant and good looking in their eyes, it’s part of their required candidate-myth.  It is backwards thinking in that they assign good qualities to someone they like rather than liking someone with good qualities, but if they were clear logical thinkers they probably would not be statists in the first place.

So Mr. Obama is out there with his best buddies in the media and one of them asks him what should be a softball question for such a smart guy, “How do you define victory in Afghanistan?”  Obviously lacking his trusty teleprompter, he replied with some flowery garbage about how it’s not like when Emperor Hirohito signed a formal surrender.  Anyone who knows anything about history, or even just watches the History channel, knows that it simply never happened, the emperor was not involved in the surrender signing.  I think that Mr. Obama is a lot like Biden in that he will say whatever comes to mind, perhaps secure in the knowledge that his fawning myrmidons in the mainstram media will cover for him.  Just helping him no doubt sends a thrill up their collective legs.  Sometimes it seems that they are all now metaphorical Nina Burleighs for the current president.
