Bugs Bunny MinutemanIf you watch an old Bugs Bunny cartoon you will often notice something that seems absent in today’s offerings.  It’s patriotism and pride in America.

There was a time when the creative people in America who made cartoons and movies and television programs actually used their talents for good rather than evil, a time when that flavor of individual was still proud to be American and still appreciated the principles and concepts that made America great.  I don’t know when that line was crossed, when it became fact that almost all such people pine for theoretical collectivist systems that destroy freedom.  Perhaps it coincides with that time decribed by Ronald Reagan as when the Democrat party left him as opposed to the often-suggested opposite.

This brilliant 9 minute cartoon, titled Make Mine Freedom, was produced by John Sutherland in 1948 and does a good job of demonstrating the ism’s that claim to offer a utopia but in fact only destroy freedom and prosperity.  All of the points made in this timeless video are incredibly applicable now as Americans debate, and in some cases actively work to prevent, Mr. Obama’s stated intent to “remake” America.

In the video, a snake oil salesman who could easily be Barack Obama tries to sell his tonic of “ISMs” t0 the naive representatives of labor, management, and politics.  Before they readily agree to the contract trading their freedoms for security, another character representing the regular people implores them to have some sense and shows them what the results would be.

Big Hand of the StateWarning the industrialist about the future, the image is of the big Hand of The State throwing the man out of his factory, declaring:

The State is the supreme court.  Our decision is as follows.  No more private property.  No more you.

Then a line that could be taken from today’s news describing the tactics of the Obama administration:

When anybody preaches disunity, tries to pit one against the other through class warfare, race hatred, or religious intolerance you know that person seeks to rob us of our freedoms and destroy our very lives.  And we know what to do about it.”

One year.  Let’s keep our heads on straight and fight this holding action until we can take back our government.

The video closes with this statement:

Working together to create an ever increasing abundance of material and spiritual values for all, that is the secret of American Prosperity.

Do not let yourself confuse false security with freedom.

Thomas Sowell: Obama is a liar

Sowell must be racist, huh?  According to the media, those of us who do not salute every utterance out of the Dear Leader’s mouth are motivated by racism.  I for one do not care that Obama’s skin is brown but I very much care that his politics are red.

The brilliant Dr. Sowell points out something that Charlie Gibson (advocate for the left) probably has not mentioned to the proles: though they are rushing this bill through Congress, it does not go into effect until after the next Presidential election!

One plain fact should outweigh all the words of Barack Obama and all the impressive trappings of the setting in which he says them: He tried to rush Congress into passing a massive government takeover of the nation’s medical care before the August recess– for a program that would not take effect until 2013!

Whatever President Obama is, he is not stupid. If the urgency to pass the medical care legislation was to deal with a problem immediately, then why postpone the date when the legislation goes into effect for years– more specifically, until the year after the next Presidential election?

If this is such an urgently needed program, why wait for years to put it into effect? And if the public is going to benefit from this, why not let them experience those benefits before the next Presidential election?

He answers his own question, but you already knew why Mr. Obama is doing what he is doing:

If we do not believe that the President is stupid, then what do we believe? The only reasonable alternative seems to be that he wanted to get this massive government takeover of medical care passed into law before the public understood what was in it.

Moreover, he wanted to get re-elected in 2012 before the public experienced what its actual consequences would be.

What a complete hardball-politics slimeball Barack Obama is.  This is a new leader?  This is HopenChange?  This clown is attempting to ram Soviet-style health care down our throats but does not want us to get a taste of how bad it will be until he is safely into his second term in the White House.  True to form as a statist, he consistently shows that creating and cementing more government dependence is his raison d’etre.  His reason for being.

One would imagine that the press would be performing their watchdog duties if a Republican tried such a thing.  Of course, when a leftist is in power the American Media morphs from watchdogs into lapdogs.

The Bill of Rights

President Obama, you continue to make unwelcome advances on our liberties.  Figuratively speaking, I am sick of slapping your hand when it rides up too high on my smooth, tempting Bill of Rights.  You pushed through your bogus Cap-and-Trade which counter to your electioneering rhetoric is indeed a tax on everyone in America, arguably hitting the people below 250K the hardest.  Then you pushed through a massive and unprecedented budget that, again contrary to the rhetoric used to sell it was just every single off-the-shelf leftist big government program from the last 40 years.  And now, after saddling my grandchildren with the debt for your massive expansion of government, you want to seize control of the American Health Care system, the best such system in the world.  Keep your damned hands off of my freedom, you repugnant statist.

It was one thing when it was just libertarian types who were shocked and revolted by your attempt to remake our country in your collectivist Alinsky-ite vision.  Libertarians of all stripes, even us more practical lowercase-L libertarians, have always stood against men like you, men who appear to worship the State when in fact they only worship themselves but use the power of the State to attempt to elevate themselves to the level of their own staggering self-importance.  But this has gotten much bigger than that.  It is not just the perennial rabble rousers now; we have been joined by young people and grandparents.  When I looked around at my fellow patriots at the Atlanta Tea Party back on tax day I realized that this is not just a bunch of guys marching for gun rights like we did back in the early Clinton years… this is a slice of America.  More than that, it is a slice of the people who make America work, as opposed to the people who want to find a way to live off of the rest of us.  Those people still support you, like the hogs feeding at the trough that they are.

You are going to make another attempt tonight to convince Americans that we should accept a move to a Soviet-style health care sytem, a proposal that has been increasingly and resoundingly rejected by most Americans – at least those who are not already societal parasites.

Your response to our pushback is predictable.  I dare you to try to implement anything close to the Fairness Doctrine to attempt to muzzle the opposition.  I dare you, Mr. President.

Keep your hands off my liberty, you radical freedom-loathing beta male.

The Mob: Who We Are

This excellent article was posted at the always great Hot Air blog.  The author, writing under the psuedonym of Doctor Zero, tries to explain who the mob is.  Check out the entire article here but I will relate a couple of his good points:

We don’t like having to fight desperate battles to save our freedom and future from socialist politicians every ten or twenty years. We don’t like having our time wasted with trillion-dollar statist fantasies, when our government is already trillions of dollars in the red. We’re tired of checking the papers each day, to see which group of us has been targeted as enemies of the State. We’re growing impatient waiting for the Democrats to come up with ideas that don’t require their supporters to hate someone. We’ve had our fill of “progressives” who act as if we’re living in 1909, and none of their diseased policies have ever been tried before.

Hear hear, brother.  To “progressives” history always started yesterday; they reject the notion that something that has failed numerous times in the past will not work now that they are trying it.  His scathing points continue:

We’ve had enough of dodging a massive State that wants to organize, subsidize, penalize, and divide us. We refuse to pay tithe to a religion we don’t support, including the official State religion of global warming. We demand honesty, humility, and transparency from our public servants, no matter how many elections they’ve won.

We don’t invest our hopes in the government. It is beneath the dignity of free men and women to spend their days hoping a politician decides to provide for our needs. We face the future, not with passive and helpless “hope”, but with active and dynamic faith in ourselves, and our fellow Americans. We are opposed to a political class that tries to cultivate our hopes by showering us with fear. We don’t trust politicians with our fortunes, much less with our lives. In fact, we don’t trust politicians much at all… but we absolutely require them to trust us.

Excellent.  He closes with his most cogent point to the statists and to those of us who are fellow mob members:

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have a lot of work to do. There’s an election coming up next year.

I am on your team, brother.  These statists have pissed off a group of people who are slow to rile but will not back down.  We are fighting this fight not only for the future, our children and grandchildren, but for those who went before us.  We are fighting this fight for the patriots who crafted this great country and for the Americans who have paid the ultimate price in preserving and defending it.

To do any less would make us undeserving of the label of American.  Don’t tread on me.
