This story is unbelievable, really. David K. Rehbein, Commander of The American Legion, met with President Obama to discuss the president’s plan to “force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries”. He was not satisfied with the meeting:
“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”
The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, “This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ‘ to care for him who shall have borne the battle’ given that thesent members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America’s veterans!”
This effortless distain for the military that a good chunk of the Democrat party takes part in is not new but it certainly seems more bold since they got an elite beta male – one of their own – into the Presidency. Folks, this is the President of the United States, the freaking commander in chief of our military, and he wants to save some budget money by requiring reimbursement from the private insurance companies of the service members. Please do not forget that this same president felt no financial constraints whatsoever when it came to the stimulus package or record-setting budget, both nothing more than naked examples of the hard-left’s pent up need to go on a spending spree for their special interests.
There are a couple of other angles to this story, the first being the additional pressure put on the wounded service members and their families. They will be required to cough up those deductibles. More threateningly, if the medical expenses are high enough to max out the policy then that serviceman’s family, the ones who have already sacrificed for our country, will be without health coverage. Not only that, but imagine how much premium-pricing pressure that private employeers will get from insurers to encourage them not to hire recent veterans or members of the National Guard. These pressures will increase the expense of insurance across the board as well as increase the personal costs of serving your country.
The American Legion also believes that some employers, especially small businesses, would be reluctant to hire veterans with service-connected disabilities due to the negative impact their employment might have on obtaining and financing company health care benefits.
But as sinister as all of that is, when you look beyond the typical leftist beta-male distain for military service it becomes apparent that this is all about socialized medicine.
The Obama administration is going to do everything that they can do to damage the private health insurance industry in America. This repugnant new proposal, which of course some members of Congress have already announced as “dead on arrival”, is designed to hurt private health insurance companies by forcing much higher expenses on them. This is all part of an orchestrated plan to damage every private option for health coverage, making it more and more “obvious” that the only real option is Socialized Medicine.
Can you imagine how happy the Obama administration would be if private health insurers were as on the ropes as the banking industry? Their greatest fantasies are of Americans taking the same ignorant “take it over and throw money at it” attitude that we seem to have taken with the financial crisis. I think that we need to pay very close attention to every proposal that comes out of the Pelosi/Reid/Obama collectivist propaganda mill and what it could do to private health insurance in America.
I would submit that even the hardcore collectivists in the Obama administration have been surprised at what the [mostly government caused] crisis has allowed them to get away with and they are a little drunk with it. They will do anything to take over control of our health care system and it has nothing to do with compassion or concern for anyone. It is about control.
