Wow, you could knock me over with a feather… Reuters reports that President Obama is concerned that some of the Gitmo detainees are “hard-core militants” and could present a danger if released.
Since this naive empty suit’s knowledge of Gitmo was largely gleaned from Daily Kos until he was elected, we should have expected him to come around once the reality went beyond some late night college rap session GroupThinking. Next he is going to realize that the Rosenbergs were actually guilty.
The animals at Gitmo do not deserve US legal protections. Those of us who respected the military before 2007 already knew this. Those of us who know military history already knew this. Those of us whose desire to keep our guard up against Islamic Fundamentalism goes beyond campaign sloaganeering already knew this. Obama goes on to state a half truth though I think that he is trying to paint it as something that it is not:
Is it going to be easy?” Obama asked in the interview. “No, because we’ve got a couple hundred of hard-core militants that, unfortunately, because of … some problems that we had previously in gathering evidence, we may not be able to try in ordinary courts but we don’t want to release.”
When President Urkel talks of “some problems that we had previously in gathering evidence”, I think that he is implying something that is not the case. Dedicated leftists would read that statement as something similar to a criminal case in which the evidence was gathered inappropriately and cannot be used. The truth is that the evidence was gathered using technologies that we would rather not have to disclose in court, and this is one of the most practical reasons to keep these combatants out of US courts.
Also, what kind of idiot thinks that the treatment of our captured troops at the hands of al Qaeda types is going to be influenced by how we treat the animals at Gitmo? Will they decapitate our soldiers more humanely if Obama and his Daily Kos myrmidons have their way with Gitmo? Our guys do not get any good treatment either way. You beta males would crack me up if the consequences of your feel good, naive cowardice were not so serious to the rest of us.
As far as waterboarding is concerned, I am a fan. I think that most of the time things like that are not appropriate but I do think that there are times for it and Kalid Sheikh Mohammed is a good example of that. Sometimes the rough men among us need to do some tough and often ugly work. When that time comes, you arugula eaters need to stand down for a bit and go polish your nails or shop online for some new shoes.
But, heck, I strongly supported the actions of LTC West, so you know where I am coming from. Sometimes things need to get done.
